Summertime is the best time of year, but it can also be the most dangerous. With the temperatures rising, it’s more important than ever to stay safe and cool. Follow these tips to beat the heat and enjoy summer to the fullest!

1. Stay Hydrated

Dehydration can lead to heatstroke, so make sure you drink plenty of fluids, especially water or sports drinks.

Tips for drinking more when it’s hot!

  • Add Liquid IV to your water, especially if you don’t like water all that much – this makes it taste delicious & it has electrolytes!
  • Purchase a fun double-walled water bottle like Swell or Hydroflask!
  • Freeze the water in your water bottle. I fill mine halfway and then add water when I am ready to go!
  • While I am home, I rotate mason jars and water bottles in the fridge, so all day, I drink cold water 🙂
  • Eat water-rich foods like watermelon.

If you are anything like me and take water everywhere, do yourself a favor and get a double-walled water bottle! No more drinking HOT water in the car. Your water will stay nice and cool while you go!

2. Avoid the hottest times of the day!

If you have activities or chores planned for the day, try to do them during the cooler parts of the day, in the early morning & late afternoon.

If this isn’t a possibility, take a snack break (bonus if this includes a pool or sprinkler!), get a cool down towel, and drink more water than you think you need!

Just take multiple breaks when you feel yourself overheating! Listen to your body!

3. Think about your clothing!

This is important! Wear light-colored and loose clothing when possible! My go-to clothing is wide-leg pants with a cotton t-shirt. When I am active, I wear leggings and a cotton T-shirt.

Most places will tell you to wear moisture-wicking clothes, but I have never been a fan of how these feel on my skin when it’s hot. I always feel more comfortable and cooler when wearing 100% cotton shirts!

If you are going to be out in the sun, wear a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes, protect your head from burning & keep the sweat from running into your eyes! (haha)

4. Close your blinds and curtains!

Drop the blinds and pull the curtains to keep the sun from beaming. This will keep your home degrees cooler! Along with saving you some money on your electricity bill!

We drop our blinds every night before going to bed, this helps so much!

5. Rethink your bedding!

Invest in a good set of linen sheets! These have been game changers year round and I couldn’t be happier that I caved and finally bought them!

Quince Sheets are freaking LOVELY! Do yourself a favor this Summer and get a set!
