B R O W S E ....
We were so excited about car camping at Polihale State Park on Kauai Hawaii!
Once we dropped off our tent, getting snacks from our friend Andy, we headed to the airport, dropped off our Jeep and got on a plane to Kauai! Headed to a new island for a lot of beach camping!
When you fly Southwest out of Honolulu, you have to walk about a mile, take a short 20 min ride on the ground, fly in the air for about 15 or so min. It was the shortest plane right EVER! We kind of giggled when we took off and landed!
Flying to Kuaui, I felt like I was actually in a Jurassic Movie! It was AMAZING! I was so giddy to land!
Once we landed we got an Uber to pick up our SUV with a Pop Up Tent! We were so stoked to camp on the beach! The number 1 thing we would have changed is the SUV we rented! It was a tad old and every bump sounded like it was going to fall apart! It made me freaked out and laugh every time!
We headed straight to our camp spot as it was a 2+ hour drive, and we were told to get there early to ensure a place to camp!
The nearly 5-mile dirt road for Polihale State Park is an adventure, and when you are in a car that sounds like it’s going to fall apart you go extra slow. Well, that few miles took nearly 1.5+ hours. We got passed by a lot of Jeeps! Which made us giggle! But, the drive was SOOOO worth it!
Justin and I freaking love water, so there is rarely a beach we want to leave! We found a great campsite with a great view of the ocean! We popped up our tent, watched the sunset and made a fancy freeze-dried dinner and poured a drink!
After dinner, we met a rad couple on their Honeymoon! We stayed up late, watching the stars move across the sky and drank all the drinks!
Before going to bed, we packed everything up, and I made sure to lock the car, BUUUUT! There was no key to be found!
We searched in the dark for the key! Unpacked the packs a few dozen times, tore the tent apart and searched the ground. Saw a lot of small ants and spiders but no key! I was retracing my steps while Justin found it hanging on the chair I was sitting on. It fell out of my pocket.
For the remaining of the trip, it was ALWAYS clipped me!
We woke up with the Sun, made oatmeal and drank our coffee by the water. It was so quiet, as we were the first people to be awake. I didn’t want to leave!
If you ever go camping on Kauai Polihale State Park is a MUST! But, please get a Jeep or a good 4-Wheel Drive, it is needed! I haven’t been on a road this rough since the Dalton in Alaska!
